Went to Target the other day and found #8719's on clearance, for under $1. After open a few of them up, they are pretty neat. Don't know what I'm going to do with them, but I might start hording some... I'm thinking about a moonbase module, where they mine out the spheres... Need to build some space looking mining equipment and hover haul vehicles.

Great Train Expo at the Florida State Fairgrounds
Well, I'll be at the Great Train Expo at the Florida State Fairgrounds this coming weekend (Dec. 30th and 31st). Check out the GFLTC web-site for directions & times. I haven't had much time to build anything for this show, but I do have a few days. Been busy with finding work after the first of the year -- my contract is up at the end of December. In the mean time, I'm still trying to find my niche... I might try building a sky-scraper... Or just concentrate on smaller buildings. I might try doing an orange grove... or concentrate on Florida agriculture. Maybe I'll do a small modular swamp area, with palm trees, alligators, and spanish moss. :) But I think I want to give the displays some depth, but building a few modular train hill sections (see Paul Janssen's post on the standard).

More BrickMaster Disappointments
Looks like I'm not the only one that was disappointed in the selection of sets sent out in this year's BrickMaster subscription. A few have been talking about it over on BrickLink. The conversation starts out by asking a question, then it goes down hill from there.

BrickWorld Announced
Looks like BrickWorld has been announce on LUGNET for June 21- 24, 2007. When Joe Meno was in town, he was called several times about BrickWorld planning... according to his blog, he's an advisor on this event, not a coordinator... but I already knew this. ;)
I thinking about attending BrickSouth this year (now that we live in Florida), if it's in Atlanta again. But hmmm... BrickFest or BrickWorld... That's going to be a though choice...
Update: There wasn't a BrickSouth that year. :-/

#6500 Holiday Village
Been reading through blogs, catching up on LEGO news, when I saw that an image of this set was added to Peeron... Looking on Lugnet, it might only have been released in the UK; or it might have had a limited release. Some parts that I think are totally out of character for 1996, aren't, which is surprising. These slopes are in red in the #6500 set, but they were released in purple in a Freestyle set back in '95. This fence piece shows up in red in the #6500, but was also release in green and white that same year in a freestyle set and a pirate set. The use of a palm tree, bush, tree foliage, and flowers just seem out of character for a set. Then throw in the 2x2 gray bricks to connect the baseplates together seems strange as well.
I'm not saying this set is a hoax, but there are elements to the set that seem just out of character... Look like someone took a FreeStyle bucket, a roadplate pack, and a minifig pack and created their own town set. Stickers provided by an Idea Book... except I can't place the graphics on the pizza delivery truck.
According to this post, the set may never have been released... and after analyzing it for a little while, I can see why. I'm wondering if stuff like this should be given it's own LEGO "urban legend" page somewhere... looks like questions about this set pop up every year about why it's in the catalog.

#8934 Squid Ammo
So Erika and I went to the LEGO store tonight. Picked up a few #5524 Airport factory sets -- great deal, btw. And picked up a #8934 Squid Ammo set for myself for $1.99. Now, I'm not a big fan of Bionicle, but this set is neat and looked very interesting. It contains 7 rubbery squids. On the back of the box, there's a picture of a 'squid launcher', that you place the squid on, pull back on the tail, then shoot it at targets... Now I'll have to figure out which other Bionicle set that has the squid launcher to try it out. :)
