GFLUG at MegaCon in Orlando, FL

Time to plug our local LUG.  :)

The Greater Florida LEGO User Group located in central Florida will have a LEGO display at MegaCon, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL this coming weekend (March 25th-27th).  This year, should be a nice mixture of moon-base, space ships, Star Wars dioramas, castle, sculptures, mosaics, and miscellaneous MOCs.  If you happen to go to the show, stop by and check out out... and say hello!

#8719 Zamor Spheres

Went to Target the other day and found #8719's on clearance, for under $1. After open a few of them up, they are pretty neat. Don't know what I'm going to do with them, but I might start hording some... I'm thinking about a moonbase module, where they mine out the spheres... Need to build some space looking mining equipment and hover haul vehicles.

Ostrich-Steed

So I bought this #4418 Dino Pod a few days ago. Been sitting on my desk at work, till I brought it home... Opened it up today, taking note of the parts, then I thought to myself, how can I turn these two Modified 1 x 1 Plate with Tooth into a bird's beak.. from all the parts in the set. So after about 15 minutes, I came up with a Ostrich-Steed for my Space Amazon. It's very crude & I'm not too happy with how the knees bend, but it works for now... You should have seen it before I played with the legs... a very alien, awkward bird... funny looking, having to sit on it's tail for support.

I should make a better one for BrickFest... now that I think about it... More detail... a more refined look to it.

#6971 Inter-Galactic Command Base

Just built a used copy of #6971 Inter-Galactic Comand Base tonight. Nice little classic space set. Two creator plates, 3 mini-figs, lots of blue windows, 3 trans-yellow plates, and 4 trans-red shields. It also comes with a little ship, a old style hover craft, and a rocket. The base itself is very open; accessibility, I guess. It was fun to build... but it's not like a pirate set or castle set... a little light on structure and details...

Space Amazons

So, I've been playing around with this idea of introducing Amazons into the Lego space continuum. This image is just inspiration for the sub-theme. Next, I should establish a color scheme and start building a ship or two...

Wow! Excellent MOC by Chris Giddens. Excellent use of apparently useless parts... very creative design & I love the SLAMbulance.

My Moonbase Module

Just finished working on my moonbase module for BrickFest DC 2004. It's not much, but it's a start.

Update: To be honest, I don't know what I was thinking. The color scheme is all wrong & doesn't match any space sub-theme. It needed greebling. There's no minifigs or robots or moonscaping. It looks like it was thrown together in 15 minutes (but in all honest, took about an hour because I had to go digging for parts in unsorted bins.
