GFLUG at MegaCon in Orlando, FL

Time to plug our local LUG.  :)

The Greater Florida LEGO User Group located in central Florida will have a LEGO display at MegaCon, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL this coming weekend (March 25th-27th).  This year, should be a nice mixture of moon-base, space ships, Star Wars dioramas, castle, sculptures, mosaics, and miscellaneous MOCs.  If you happen to go to the show, stop by and check out out... and say hello!

Awe Inspiring Random Picture for the Day

Just wonderful!  I don't know any more details about it, other than what Google translator can provide.  I love the verticalness of the two castles!  Be nice to see the tree structure be just as tall & impressive.

Happy Holidays

And speaking of advent calendars, I saw on BrickSet's RSS feed today that there will be a #6299 Pirate Advent Calendar next year??? Let's just hope LEGO doesn't screw it up next year and not ship them to the US like they did with the #7979 Castle Advent Calendar! I bought my two and I'm jonesing for another one.

Was surfing around Flickr looking for something to blog about and stumbled across this Christmas LEGO display. I really wish I knew some of the history behind it -- I don't think I've seen anything on this scale in the US, except the there's a similar LEGO Santa at the Orlando LIC... And I'm starting to wonder what they'll do with the LEGO Santa after the holidays (put it in storage, ship it back to HQ, or something else).

Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

I haven't promoted LAMLradio here enough; if you haven't listened to it, go check it out now! James manages to get some really great interviews & great people on the show, that I find his podcasts very fun to listen to. And to support James, please buy his CD that includes all 27 episodes that were released on the podcast in August 2008, only $12USD.

Ravensburger Puzzles?

So here's a new one on me... A co-worker sent a link to me of a Ravensburger Puzzle with LEGO sets. It's a puzzle of a picture of a LEGO set(s) and a little LEGO set included with the puzzle. He said he saw it right next to the LEGO, in the building toy isle.

On Saving Lego Castle...

I think Lego was lucky to tap into the Star Wars collector's market... Cheap robots has been another market the Lego Group have been able to tap into... But here's my idea... to "save" casle -- and I say this tongue in cheekly -- there are thousands of people spending hundres of millions of dollars on World of Warcraft minitures armies... some have found that it's cheaper to build armies in Lego. I say release castle minifig packs again, marketed with these people in line... let the product line have Orcs, Goblins, bring back the Harry Potter Ogre, Elves, Dwarfs... not something that fans have pieced together from different sets over time, but themed this way... Give each minifig a 4x4 green plate to stand on (or a 4x6 plate if the minifig is mounted on a horse), different heads, torsos, legs, at least 1 to 2 different weapon for each minifig, a few helmets, shields, armor... Have a baddies pack, base on the same idea... They'll sell.

Update:  TLG has done this to some extent with Battle Pack Knights and Battle Pack Skeletons.  All they need now are battle pack dwarves, orcs, and trolls.  :)
